How to Dress for a Hospital Waiting Room (Female)

Sitting in a hospital waiting room while someone you love is being taken care of can be stressful. The proper clothes can keep you comfortable and feeling fresh, so you can concentrate on the situation at hand. Use these steps to learn what to wear or take with you to be more comfortable in a hospital waiting room.

Step
1

Wear something comfortable; this isn't the time to roll out the latest fashions or wear something that will not be comfortable after 12 hours of waiting.

Step
2

Pull on your favorite workout or lounge pants, with pockets if possible.

Step
3

Wear a tank or short sleeve top covered by a long-sleeved shirt. If you're warm, you can take a layer off. If the waiting room gets full and they turn on the air conditioning, you will be prepared for the chill.

Step
4

Slip on socks and comfortable shoes, preferably shoes that don't slip on the laminated or wet floors. You may walk around or pace, so plan for that.

Tips & Warnings

Take a book or laptop to keep you busy.

Wear bright colors to help you and others stay positive.

Bring eye or ear coverings if you plan to try to sleep. Hospitals are noisy places. Many hospitals offer sleeping quarters to patrons waiting for long periods of time.

Try not to be disrespectful of other's stress. You don't know what they are going through or how they are trying to handle it. Be supportive, but not nosy.
